In May, 2007, His Eminence Ratna Vajra Rinpoche graciously visited
Tsechen Chokhor Ling in Los Angeles, California at the invitation
of the Center’s Spiritual Director, Venerable Lama Kalsang
Gyaltsen, and Center members. The Los Angeles center is a branch
of Tsechen Kunchab Ling, Seat of His Holiness Sakya Trizin in the
United States.
His Eminence’s four-day teaching schedule began on Sunday
evening with a welcome reception and a public Dharma teaching on “Parting
From the Four Attachments.” About 75 people attended and,
as always, Rinpoche’s clear teaching and excellent English
made the Dharma accessible and meaningful to everyone.
On Monday morning, His Eminence bestowed the Bodhisattva vow,
followed by a brief and inspiring explanation of the vow’s
meaning and practice. In the afternoon, he gave Green Tara and
Chenrezig initiations. Green Tara is said to remove obstacles and
negative circumstances from our lives most swiftly, and Chenrezig
practice helps us cultivate compassion for others and Bodhicitta.
Tuesday evening, His Eminence gave White Mahakala initiation for
protection and the accumulation of wealth.
Thursday, May 31st was Buddha Shakyamuni’s birthday, and
we were extremely fortunate to celebrate this auspicious holiday
with His Eminence. Rinpoche led us in chanting the 16 Arahat prayers
and made special Tsok offerings of delicious foods and beautiful
flowers.
We are forever grateful for His Eminence’s generosity and
kindness. Everyone who attended these wonderful teachings and empowerments
felt enormously fortunate and blessed. We hope that Rinpoche will
return to Los Angeles again soon.
